What is EMDR Therapy?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an evidence-based approach that helps people process and heal from past traumas and disturbing life experiences. Developed by Dr. Francine Shapiro, EMDR facilitates the brain’s natural ability to reprocess traumatic memories so they no longer cause distress in daily life.
EMDR is based on the idea that our minds are naturally wired to heal, but trauma can disrupt this healing process, leaving us stuck in a pattern of distressing thoughts, emotions, and bodily reactions. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation to help the brain reprocess and integrate these memories in a safe and supportive way.
People often find that EMDR brings a greater sense of peace, clarity, and resilience. The memories that once triggered intense reactions can begin to feel less charged, allowing for a more balanced, grounded experience of self.
Through EMDR, even our most deeply embedded wounds can be healed. This therapy offers a path to integrating and understanding our past, with compassion, so we can live more fully in the present.
